Richie is the founding Partner of the firm. He has a strong capability to represent a global spectrum of multinational, regional, and local investors from governmental authorities, state-owned enterprises to private entities, including financial institutions and banks in dealing with regulatory matters and cross-border transactions, emphasizing unique and complex regulations in project developments, banking and finance, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation. With his strong banking and project finance capabilities as well as construction, he also has in-depth knowledge of the Indonesian infrastructure regulatory framework, particularly related to public-private partnership (PPP) combined with multinational transaction practices. Richie is among a few Indonesian lawyers who are familiar with PPP in infrastructure.
He has extensive experiences in advising on and executing local and cross-border transactions, including syndicated financing, where those experiences have put him as a leading attorney in the Indonesian banking and finance field to work on cross-border transactions, as well as significant finance restructurings in the early 2010s triggered by the coal mining industry’s diminished.
He has advised prominent banks and financing institutions such as CIMB Group, SMI, IIF, ICICI Group, OCBC Group, MUFG Group, and Bank Mandiri for various loan purposes from general corporate purpose, acquisition, asset, to project financing, including high level-due diligence exercise for watched list borrowers, and representing a Bank’ directors in restructuring borrower’s outstanding repayment through commercial court proceedings. Richie also works with Indonesia’s leading insolvency practitioners, whom Richie may represent a company as receiver and administrator in bankruptcy and suspension of payment obligation proceedings. In dispute resolution and litigation, he represented multinational clients in Indonesian courts and arbitration bodies from the BANI to SIAC.
His notable infrastructure projects include advising Indonesian consortium for the development of gas machine power plant in South Sumatera, the establishment of SMI’s subsidiary together with multinational financing institutions, land acquisition for geothermal energy upstream development project, advising Foster Wheeler Group appointed as a project management consultant of LNG floating terminal, advising the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Economic Governance on international trade services, advising PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta from a regular review of railway project regulatory framework to a particular transaction, and advising various busway development projects.
He advised the mergers of two subsidiaries of Mitsubishi Group in Indonesia, including a post notification requirement of certain shares acquisition of the significant stake in the United States company by Japanese holding company and shares acquisition in the largest Indonesian company focusing on electronic product sales. For asset transfer, he advised one of the leading providers of building and construction information in Australia to acquire certain assets of an Indonesian growing Start-up Company focusing on a digital platform to connect the users with architects, interior designers, and contractors.
He is the author of the Indonesian chapters of Getting the Deal Through – Loans and Secured Financing.
As an easy-going person, Richie is passionate about playing tennis and mountaineering. He graduated from the University of Padjadjaran in 2008 (Sarjana Hukum degree), a licensed Advocate and a member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI), and also a licensed receiver-administrator and a member of the Indonesian Receiver-Administrator Association (AKPI).
